Module 1 Overview
This module looks at the ideas that led to modern Physics. We look at simple atomic structure, then light as a wave. The topic looks at the classical wave behaviour shown by light, and other waves as well. Then we look at the particle behaviour of light, including the amazing observation that not only does light (a wave) behaves like particles, but also particles can behave like waves.
The module then goes on to develop the concept of energy measurements in wave particles and the idea of an energy ladder (Quantum Physics). Finally we will look at how way atomic particles are made up of even smaller sub-units and how these interact to explain things that go on at the level of the atomic nucleus. We then look at some experiments that led Physicists to work out what was going on at the sub-atomic level.
