Answer 5_8_1

Question 1

Why do all keyboards have the QWERTY layout?  Would it be a good idea to have a new layout?

The QWERTY keyboard arose from early mechanical typewriters.  It was designed so that the hammers of commonly used letters were well separated and did not stick together.  There is no technical reason why there should not be a keyboard based on ABCDEFG.  However secretaries are used to the QWERTY arrangement, so it lives on.  Some keyboards on computers in aeroplanes are based on the ABCDE layout.  Pilots are good at flying, not at typing!
