Answer 5_4_4
Question 4
Explain why computer networking has developed
rapidly over the last fifteen years. Your answer should discuss three
factors that have stimulated this development and three implications for
society.
Reasons for networking:
- Stand-alone machines may contain data that
others want to access. Sending data on floppy disks is not reliable and
is slow. So it made more sense to connect computers to share the data.
- There was also a desire to share data between
offices
- There was a desire to share data across the
globe.
Implications for society:
- World wide web is excellent library of resources
to educate and entertain.
- People can buy goods using their computer (the
order takes a fraction of a second to place and have your money out of your
account, but for ever and a day to produce the goods).
- Quick access to correct data enables companies
to be more productive.
